Wave of new PC processors logomacitynet1200wide 1

Time for new processors in the PC world. The offensive will be launched today simultaneously by Intel and AMD which will present a series of new chips over the next few days, beginning with Intel introducing five new low-power processors dedicated to laptops. It will be Pentium III-M from 733, 750 and two from 800 MHz. Also expected is a 700 MHz with even lower consumption. The circuitry will be from 0.13 microns and will include SpeedStep technology that reduces the processor power in conditions The first manufacturers to present machines based on the new chips will be Compaq and IBM with Dell to follow. These will be ultra light and small laptops, a segment that according to the most recent market surveys is expected to grow substantially in the coming months, also challenging an at all positive economic climate in terms of IT. At the moment ultra light and ultra portable make up only 10% of the market but will become 20% in a span of one to three years.AMD, for its part, will today launch new processors for desktop machines. These will be versions of Duron, the equivalent of Intel's Celeron, 1.1 GHz. Subsequently, perhaps in a few days, AMD will launch a new 1.5 GHz version of Athlon. Known by the code name of Palomino, the chip destined to compete for performance with the new 2 GHz Pentium based on a new architecture more efficient than that used by the competition. In mid-October AMD will also launch on the market a processor for professional machines, codenamed Hammer, the equivalent of Intel's Itanium.
