The numbering can be continuous throughout the document or restarted for each page or section of the document.
In addition or in replacement, to use auto-numbering, you can define somecustom signs.Auto numbering for custom signs is not available; if you use custom signs, you must specify the desired sign each time you add a footnote or closing note.
Define the signs for the numbering of footnotes and endnotes
In a word processing document you can use a numbering format or a predefined symbol or define a custom sign.
To define the signs:
- To use a predefined number or symbol format, in the Document panel of "Document Settings" choose a numbering style from the Format pop-up menu. The chosen numbering style will be applied to the whole document.
- To insert a custom mark, place the insertion point at the location of the document where you want the mark to appear.
- Click the Insert menu, then press the Options key. Choose "Personalized endnote", "Personalized endnote" or "Personalized footnote". What appears in the menu depends on the settings in the “Footnotes and endnotes” pop-up menu. In the dialog that appears, enter or select a custom mark and click OK. The mark is displayed and the dot insertion moves to the appropriate position in the document to type the note.
