If you are running Mac OS X v10.7 (Lion) or later, you can protect the document so that you cannot accidentally edit it, when you only intend to open it and view it. You can easily unlock the document at any time to continue editing it.
To lock a document:
Open the document you want to protect and hold the pointer over the name of the document at the top of the Pages application window. A triangle appears.
Click on the triangle and choose Lock.
To unlock a document for editing:
Hold down the mouse pointer on the document name at the top of the application window until the triangle appears, click on the triangle, then choose Unlock.
