Unlocking the bootloader on Lenovo Moto Z2 Play

In order to get the root permissions, you need to unlock the device's bootloader, so that you can install the TWRP needed to install the ZIP package that will allow you to get the root LinuxLen Moto Z2 Play permissions.

The procedure to unlock the bootloader on Lenovo Moto Z2 Play requires the use of ADB and Fastboot, which you can install on your PC using the tool recommended in the following guide.

Since this smartphone is still fairly recent, a stable TWRP release is not available on the latter's website, but you can download the experimental TWRP from the following link.

Once the custom recovery has been downloaded (in recovery.img format, if necessary rename the file as I showed you) and placed its file in a folder at will, connect the phone via USB to the PC, open a command prompt or a terminal Powershell (right mouse button + uppercase key pressed) in the folder where the recovery.img file is present and type the command:

adb reboot bootloader

to restart in bootloader mode. Now you can flash the TWRP on Lenovo Moto Z2 Play by typing the command:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

At the end it restarts the device always typing from the terminal.

fastboot reboot

After preparing the device, it is time to get the Lenovo Moto Z2 Play root permissions. To obtain root permissions you need to download the SuperSU.zip file, which can be obtained from the following link:


Now load this file into the phone memory so you can reuse it in recovery. Switch off the phone and restart it in recovery mode by pressing the button Volume SU + Power.

Within the TWRP use the menu Install, choose the SuperSU file you placed in the device's internal memory and make Swipe to confirm the installation. Use the key at the end Restart to restart the device in normal mode.

You will now have the Lenovo Moto Z2 Play root permissions.
