iPhone 12 from 5.4 "and 6.7": they will have thin Y-Octa OLED screens from Samsung

The arrival of the new generation of iPhone is certainly not around the corner: the debut is indicatively scheduled for the fall of 2020, but it is never too early to talk about the news of the upcoming Apple smartphones. A recent report released by ETNews focuses in particular on manufacturers from screens of the iPhone 12: Samsung is LG.

They will provide Apple with the panels for the three models in the 2020 range, equipped with screens from 5.4 ", 6.1" is 6,7 ". In all three cases – hypotheses already proposed by other sources – they will be of the type OLED – unlike what happened with the 2019 range, in which only two smartphones use this type of screen (OLED for iPhone 11 Pro and its Max variant, LCD for iPhone 11).

More in detail, Samsung will be the only supplier of 5.4 "and 6.7" panels, and together LG will also deal with the 6.1 "unit. The 5.4" and 6.7 "screens of the South Korean manufacturer will have a peculiarity: their thickness will be particularly reduced thanks to the use of Samsung Y-Octa technology which allows integrate the touch interface directly into the screen.

The more traditional OLEDs that do not use this solution, resort to a touch-sensitive layer superimposed on the panel. The 6.1 "screen will probably be referable to this category, probably for the future heir of the iPhone 11.

It is still early to determine whether the smaller footprint of the OLED panel will be used to reduce the thickness of the terminals or to accommodate larger batteries. A legitimate question considering that the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max the thickness is slightly increased compared to the corresponding 2018 models. For iPhone 12 an important change in design is expected, after three generations that have been very conservative, so no option is to be excluded.

Much has been said and much will be said about the upcoming iPhones, for now the alleged features include:
