Last week, Apple released the new Smart Battery Case dedicated to iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, which introduced a new addition to the previous version: a physical key dedicated to the camera.
For every new generation, Apple tries to make this kind of accessory even more attractive – for example, last year it received support for wireless charging – and in 2019 the Cupertino house went further, adding a key that never was present on any iPhone. Thanks to an x-ray analysis carried out by Creative Electron – commissioned by iFixit – we can take a look inside the case, to better understand the model structure of this year.
As can be seen from the images, the new side button required the presence of a motherboard a little larger than the one we found on previous models. On the other hand the functions of the case are expanding from year to year and at this point we must remember that the chips present inside it – in addition to regulating the start of the camera – also take care of managing the wireless charging circuit (visible in the first image). The analysis also shows us the pass-through on the lightning port that allows you to directly connect the accessories to the iPhone even without having to remove the cover.
We point out that the Smart Battery Case 2019 always uses a 2-cell battery and that the capacity is slightly increased to 10,9Wh, compared to 10.1Wh last year, and is identical on all three models. Not that there is any particular need for this tour, the reviews of the iPhone 11 Pro and that of 11 Pro Max were very clear on autonomy.
