During the second quarter, mobile games have recorded record numbers both in the download area and on the revenue side. The lockdown caused by the pandemic certainly affected.
Annie app reports that in the first seven days of the second quarter of 2020 more than 1.2 billion games have been downloaded from the Apple and Google stores. The trend remained unchanged in the following weeks, recording a 20% increase over the previous year and an average of 1 billion downloads per week. Overall, between April and June they were discharged 14 billion games.
- iOS: 3 billion downloads in Q2 2020, + 20% year on year | out of 100 downloads on the App Store, 30 are games
- USA and China are the two main markets. They like arcade, action and simulation. Among the titles we mention Fishdom: Deep Dive is ROBLOX.
- Android: 11 billion downloads in Q2 2020, + 25% year on year | out of 100 downloads on the Play Store, 45 are games
- Indians and Brazilians are at the top of the list by number of game downloads. Among the most popular products we find the Applovin puzzle game Save The Girl and the battle royale Free Fire.
Record numbers also in the area of revenue generated with well 19 billion dollars spent in the reference period, 15% more than last year (25% more for the Play Store). On Google Play, consumer spending on games represents 85% of the total, 65% on the App Store.
The most spenders on Android are Americans, Japanese and Koreans, on iOS once again the Americans who outperform the Chinese, first in Q1 2020.
