ION IPA03: a PA amplifier with dock and many new features at the Expo

The ION stand was certainly one of the richest in curiosity and novelties at the Apple Expo in Paris 08. Among the new products announced we point out the "extended" range of turntables with USB interface which now include LPDock and LP2CD to directly transfer music from vinyl on an iPod or CD.

In the first case you will have the possibility of obtaining a continuous recording in CD quality on an iPod of any type (excluding touch and iPhone) and then manipulated through the computer with the division of the tracks, the attribution of a name and, in the case subsequent AAC or MP3 conversion also tags with all the information on the various tracks. Of the various Turntable models we have anticipated all about this Macitynet article.

PA03, a PA amp with dockNot an absolute novelty but we liked it a lot live view the IPA03, a unique device that combines an amplifier "on Caddy" with an iPod dock and a rechargeable battery lasting 6 hours. The set turns out to be compact, versatile (given the presence of microphone and auxiliary inputs) and aesthetically pleasing: we see it used in outdoor animation activities, training inside gyms, gymnastics inside and by the pool … in all those fields where it is necessary to have a amplification system ready to use immediately and with good power. The retractable wheels, the aluminum finish and the large pull-out handle as well as the side ones make this IPA03 a tool resistant to even the most intense use.

The specifications speak of a weight of 19 kg, of an output of 18 watts (real) with a frequency response of 17 Hz-23 KHz. The cost to the public does not exceed 269 Euros and is supplied with a microphone. Listening live in the noisy environments of the Expo surely impressed us. However, we will try to test it directly on the field in the coming weeks with the help of an animation expert. In the meantime, we thought it well to select it as one of our Best of Expo. Below you will find the video that we shot at the Expo.

Other productsOther products on the Ion stand: Slides 2 PC, a slide digitizer via USB with a resolution of 5 million pixels that promises ease of use and immediacy in the conversion process and U-Record, an audio interface on USB with an affordable cost . In the field of oddities, we include VCR2PC and TAPE2PC, two audio-video conversion systems from VHS tapes or only audio from audio cassettes for those who just cannot find a player capable of being used with external interfaces to be connected to a computer.

ION Drum Rockercertainly one of the most "tested" products by visitors: the Guitar Hero mania has now infected everyone and if replicating on four keys the arpeggios or the solos of a rock guitarist seems like a race of manual skills that has little to do with learning of music, manually repeating the drum patterns still makes sense and surely software like Rock Band (1 and 2) will give birth to real drummers able to play without the assistance of a video game. For this Drum Rocker seems like a peripheral " intelligent ": on the one hand there is a" real "electronic drum with a good aluminum rack construction and pads (1 pedal for the bass drum, 4 snare pads, tom etc. and 2 for the cymbals) sufficiently resistant for use "Serious". Among other things, the possibility of custom positioning of the pads allows use even for the little ones without problems. At the Expo it was demonstrated on an XBOX 360 but the game will be available later this year for PS2, PS3 and Wii and hopefully soon also on Mac. In any case, given the independent outputs of the Pads, once the budding drummer has matured into a more expert drummer he can connect an Alesis module to play with a real band.

A video from the Paris Expo shows us a remarkable drummer struggling with the instrument
