IEEE 802.16a: metropolitan wireless standard approved. – Macitynet.it
It's called IEEE 802.16a but has already been more amicably named "WirelessMAN" where MAN stands for Metropolitan Area Network.
As early as April, IEEE 802.16 was approved, optimized for frequencies from 10 to 66 GHz dedicated to videoconferencing, voice and games.
The one just approved is an extension of the previous standard but more efficient in the use of broadband for video application, voice with excellent quality levels.
From the user to the base, the system uses the DAMA-TDMA (Demand Assignment Multiple Access-Time Division Multiple Access) technique, in the opposite direction the transmitter only one with the MAC protocol, each channel can operate in the data band from 2 to 155 Mbit per second .
With this system, the promoters promise few excavations in the cities to lay the wiring quickly, ideal for covering the last mile towards the customer.
Hundreds of experts worked together for two whole years to define IEEE 802.16a.
WirelessMAN is in the running to become the "upstream" solution for hot spots operating in the IEEE 802.11 standards.
