DXOMark: iPhone 11 "decent" selfie camera but not among the best

DXOMark published its full review of the iPhone 11 selfie camera. Overall the feedback written by DXOMark states that the 12 MP front camera offers "decent performance", but fails to enter the top 10. The review of the iPhone 11 camera occurs following that made to the front camera of the iPhone 11 Pro in January. IPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro share the same technology of the front camera and the results are similar but with some differences.iPhone 11 selfie camera - DXOMARK

DXOMark iPhone 11 selfie camera review

IPhone 11 boasts the same 12 MP front unit iPhone 11 Pro with f / 2.2 aperture and 23mm focal length. The base model's selfie camera scored overall 92 for the photos and 90 for videos, sliding into the position number 13 in the ranking by DxOMark. The overall performance was quite similar to that obtained with the iPhone 11 Pro with fairly good daytime shots, while the biggest difference with the Pro model in the focus. The iPhone 11 Pro Max "can maintain better sharpness than the iPhone 11 when the subject moves away from the camera".iPhone 11 selfie camera - DXOMARK

Evaluating the video function DXOMark claims that the camera produced good results with 4K resolution at 30 fps and even managed to maintain the noise control better than the flagship iPhones. The problem of focus described in the camera also reappears during video captures. The good focus on subjects close enough to the lens, but once you move away, the face will be blurred. It could make the shots problematic if for example you use a selfie-stick, whoever is in the back will be less clear than people in the front.iPhone 11 selfie camera

As always, it is important to keep in mind that the methodology and reliability DXOMark tests are often questioned and contested, mainly on the basis that the quality of the subjective video camera and the assignment of a "score" is something complex and demanding.
